It all started in February 2010, an exciting and challenging project at work. It was dubbed a project which would take the company places, present us to a market which with so many opportunities, and possibilities of great commercial success. Some superstitious people would have gone and probably scratched the back of their ear twice, knocked on a wall four times, and hiden away all the umbrellas so that they could not be opened indoors – anything to make sure that the project would not be jinxed by anything.
*scratched record* Well, that would have been a wasted effort.
The project has been hit by consistent… err… quirky moments. You see, the project is based in New York (just incase it wasn’t already obvious). February and March saw record snow fall in NYC. Snooks and the initial team got caught in that snow storm during the first trip to NYC – they couldnt fly out, back to London.
The next trip was eventful too – it had to end a day earlier to beat the second wave of snow storms.
The third trip – British Airways decided to strike… we JUST beat the clock as they began the strike as we laned back in London.
The fourth trip – Eyjafjallajokull happened. We were stuck out in NYC for an additional week, without any knowledge of when we were heading back to London.
Ofcourse, travel hasn’t been the only cause of chaos so far. Weird work situations, determination of people not to change work processes, tight deadlines, manic hours (often averaging 12-13 hours per day) of solid work, and confusions in expectations have been the norm on this project so far. The project however, has brought us to NYC – the land of oppotunity, the city that never sleeps; we are working on a project which will be a success because we have the best minds working on this (Ok, so I missed the class on modesty), and in the words of Chumbawumba – “Nothing’s gonna get us down”.
So, as I sit back sipping my Dr Pepper, waiting for my screwed up spelling and pronunciation to go awry, I wonder – “What’s the worse that could happen?”
