I remembered well in High School back in the year 2001, or was it 2000. Oh well, whichever it was. It was my first encounter with a ghost. Yes, a ghost.
It’s not Casper I’m talking about but a real ghost that walks every night at your high school dorm. Every year, Form 5 students have to participate in school camp usually held on a school holiday at the school’s dorm. So the building is empty and we Form Five students make our way in.
We choose our own classmates to dominate one dorm where it can fit more than 15 students in a small room. Well, we have double deck beds to fit everyone in. I took a single bed alongside with my BFF, and another classmate. The tentative of the camp is…well, study and study and more study and some motivational talks. We were going back and forth from classroom to classroom. This lasted till 11 pm since we had to turn off the light and expected to go to sleep which we never seem to follow. We were gossiping away like every girl does at a slumber party. I can’t remember how I fell asleep.
The next day I heard some girls talking over something which I can’t be bother to listen too. Then during shower, my girlfriend asked me whether I heard something last night.
“You heard something last night?” she asked.
“What something?” I responded.
“You know what, last night there were this loud barking noise outside our dorm. It was so loud and pretty weird and scary and I couldn’t sleep” said Muna, my much closed friend.
“It was not like any dog barking. It was weird and freaky as though it was calling to something” she added.
I pretend to not care as though it was not that big a deal but on the inside I was feeling pretty freaked out because I could totally imagine how it was. So the class went on as usual and I totally forgot the drama they mentioned.
That night we decided to sleep in the middle of the room. I pulled out the bed from the side and joint them with another bed so that my two friends could sleep beside me. We chit chat a little about our past time and didn’t realized what time it was. We then decided to take a nap since we had to wake up for Qiyamulail, prayers that Muslim do at night around 4.30am. I then dozed off.
Suddenly I woke up and looked at my watch and it was 4am. I thought why I did I wake up? Everything was quiet; everyone was fast asleep and I thought I might as well close my eyes and get some sleep since I only had 30mins left for that.
Suddenly I heard a barking noise right outside the door. It was so loud and creepy. It wasn’t a normal “barf” or “woof” but more of a “wooooof….ooooffff” I don’t know how to make sound effects with letters =D.
The noise was so loud as though it was barking next to my ears. I then remembered stories people used to tell that the school land is quite spooky.
There was lots of exorcist going on. Students used to see things flying from roof to roof. Things with long black hair wearing with white drape garment with no legs and laugh hysterically in the air, the thing that awaits you at the corridor trying to make your night a nightmare. Picture the ghost from Shutter. OK, I’m getting goose bumps already.
The sounds were getting louder and louder. They say that when a dog barks it means it saw something walking around. That wasn’t really helping me. I just lied still in bed and was pretending I was asleep if incase the ghost noticed me that I was awake. Haha (Don’t blame me, I was dead scared) Then at that time I remember my friend used to tell me ghost stories when one night a girl couldn’t sleep and heard something outside her door. She was too scared to open her eyes but pretended she was sleeping and suddenly she heard someone says “I know you are not asleep” in a spooky way. Eeek, I was in that girl situation. I imagined what if it was calling out my name. I don’t think I can handle that. Lots of creepy imagination came to mind. What if suddenly I woke up and no one was around and that ‘thing’ was next to me or maybe at the end of my feet waiting. My heart pumps fast as though it was running out of air. I just couldn’t take it. I wanted to wake my friends up, but was too afraid it might not be them ^^’. I got high crazy imagination if you must know =D.

The barking still went on and out of nowhere I hear footsteps walking back and forth near the window. It’s like it was walking with clogs; shoes which is usually worn to the toilet. Click clock click clock. Oh man, my heart was pumping fast. I feel as though that thing was walking right above my head. I felt like it was waiting to get inside or probably waiting for someone to open the door. Really I was totally freaking out that night. I was afraid to open my eyes fearing if suddenly I spotted it across the room sucking blood or something. Really this is no joke; a friend of my friend once woke up in the middle of the night and found a ‘thing’ sucking blood at her roommates’ toes, the thing that was so ugly you will never forget its looks. What would you do if you saw such thing? OK, this probably sound like she had nightmare, but these things usually happens here.
The thing was walking back and forth and the dog was still barking. I just shut my eyes tight, and my heart was reciting some prayers so that God will protect me from any unwanted moments. I didn’t realize I fell asleep. The next thing I knew, the school warden woke us up for Qiyamulail. What a relief. I thought if I saw that thing with my eyes, I guess it be more interesting to tell. Thank God I didn’t because if I saw it, I might be trauma and might be sick the whole week or probably months. We wouldn’t want that to happen. Would we?
When I woke up, the girls in the room told us that they couldn’t sleep at all that night. Most of them were laying hard stiff in their bed frighten =D. Guessed I was not alone. A girl who was sleeping on the double deck bed said that she felt her bed was shaky as though that thing shake it. Probably her imagination, but I doubt it and everyone was glad it was over. This was my first encounter with ghost. Well I should say my first encounter with creepy moments and that wasn’t the last. I’ve gone through it again at my campus and at home and it would be very interesting to share at a slumber party. Combine my story and my friends; you’ll be sure to ask someone to sleep with you. It was one creepy memory that will lurk inside my head forever.

P.S – Sorry for any grammars error. I do welcome correction though. Pretend you are a teacher marking students’ paper. =D. I hope I don’t get an F ^^. I do feel like writing school essays which I usually fail in school =D

This story scared me enough into switching on my second bedroom light! :s
Whoooo scarey stuff … I’m surprised you were able to drift off again after hearing unearthly footsteps and woofing
I’ll be switching the landing light on tonight! Love the image too. I think I’d avoid any sleepovers with you ‘tho, just to be on the safe side!!!
(am I the only one who watches horror movies and wonders WHY people are stupid enough to go into these creepy-looking houses?!)
Great memories, Skinny_legs, thanks so much for sharing. Sleep tight
Aw, poor you! My sisters ae really easily freaked out…once, one of them watched an HOUR of a scary movie and then ran upstairs crying because she was terrified. I’m not scared easily (I don’t think), but that must have been so frightening for you!
When we were kids, a bunch of us used to make up scary stories and scare our other cousins….. don’t be surprised if it was us howling outside the dorm room!
