Noobies…..

by biscuitinabasket on January 17, 2009

It’s been a long week, even though I was at work for only 3 days; no, not long weekend, flu.

I spent my Friday, for the second week in a row, training some of the newer member of staff on my team. I must say that I am enjoying their company, and more often than not they are challenging me and helping me raise my game to a new level. Over the last 2 training session, I kind of get and understand the satisfaction that people have in the teaching profession. Saying that, I don’t think I could teach all week!

I am also enjoying connecting with my noobies on a social and philosophical level. I have always been one to forge connections with a lot of people; the majority of whome are older than me. My noobies are no different, and there is some level of calm and ease when I am in their company. We spent our short breaks talking and discussing things like you would between friends, and not necessarily work colleagues. This feeling though has only kicked in off recently. When the 3 of them joined the company (over the last 4 months), I felt a level of intimidation towards the 3 of them, and I don’t know why? I guess I am a slow starter with people, and like to get into my comfort zone before I go crazy; I guess it’s the same with them too.

I had a fun Friday, and I hope I get a chance to have more productive sessions with them soon! My next training sessions, with other noobies are 2 weeks from today…. let’s see how it goes!
How has your week been?

*Quick shout out* to Legend of G, who is another colleague of mine, and has finally posted a comment on his birthday (on the 16th of Jan). G was the second or third person to know about my blog, and I appreciate his ‘effort’ of keeping shush about what I write in the office space. Although he does pass “subtle” comments… Here’s to your crazy dry sarcasm and the hope of many more comments from you in the future!

sounds fun, although most times i have no patience for teaching someone who can’t keep up with me.
